What to do before you call a plumber?

What You Should Do Before Calling A Plumber

Plumbing emergencies never happen at a convenient time. However, before you call a plumber, turn off the water at the water supply or turn off the main water shutoff valve in case there is an unseen leak that you are unaware of.

Your first thought may be to call a plumber if your sink is leaking. But, before you do, there are a few things you can try that may solve the problem without the need for professional assistance.

-To begin, determine whether the leak is coming from the faucet or the drain. Tighten the packing nut under the handle if it’s coming from the faucet. If that doesn’t work, replace the washer. Tighten the P-trap if the leak is coming from the drain.

-If these do-it-yourself fixes do not work, you will need to call a plumber. But first, turn off the water at the main shut-off valve to avoid further damage.

After you’ve stopped the leak, call a plumber to come out and assess the situation. It’s also beneficial to have everything cleared away so the professional can get right to work on the problem.
