How Long Does It Take To Get Qualified As A Plumber?

If you are pursuing an NVQ Diploma Level 2, it will typically take you 1 to 2 years to obtain all of the necessary plumbing qualifications.

It takes a lot of hard work and dedication to become a qualified plumber. There are many different paths to becoming a qualified plumber, but the most common is to complete an apprenticeship.

An apprenticeship typically lasts three to four years, during which time you will learn all of the skills and knowledge required to become a fully qualified plumber. In order to obtain your qualification, you will also need to pass a number of exams.

After completing your apprenticeship, you will need to find work with a plumbing company to gain experience and begin earning money. After gaining enough experience, you may decide to start your own plumbing business or work for yourself.

What Are the Prerequisites for Becoming a Qualified Plumber?

There is no one-size-fits-all answer to this question because the qualifications required to become a qualified plumber vary depending on where you live. However, in order to be certified as a journeyman or master plumber, you must first complete an accredited plumbing apprenticeship.

To qualify for the journeyman level in the United States, for example, the National Apprenticeship Standards for Plumbing require applicants to have completed at least 144 hours of technical instruction and 2,000 hours of paid on-the-job training. Journeyman plumbers who pass an exam can then apply for a master plumber license, which requires an additional 4,000 hours of experience.

Similarly, most provinces and territories in Canada require aspiring plumbers to complete a four or five-year apprenticeship program before taking their provincial or territorial certification exam. Plumbers who have been certified can then apply for their Journeyperson certificate.

While the answer to the question “How long does it take to become a qualified plumber?” will vary depending on where you live, becoming certified generally takes several years of study and on-the-job training.
